MANILA, Philippines —The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced that Metro Manila shoppers can start their shopping trips as early as 9 a.m. beginning Dec. 23.
In a statement, MMDA acting chairman Romando Artes said the agency allowed the resumed operating hours as the “easing in the flow of traffic in Metro Manila’s thoroughfares have been observed despite the increase in Christmas-related activities.”
“Thus, foregoing considered, shopping malls in Metro Manila may now begin operation as early as 9 a.m. starting December 23, 2022,” cited Artes, in a memorandum circular released to shopping mall operators.
According to Artes, the memo will give the public more time to do their last-minute Christmas shopping.
It can be recalled that the MMDA adjusted mall hours to open at 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Nov. 14 to reduce traffic congestion in Metro Manila at the onset of the holiday season.
