Pagasa predicts rainy weekend in 14 areas

MANILA, Philippines — Rainy weekend is expected in 14 areas due to the shear line and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the state weather bureau on Friday.

In its advisory, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical, Astronomical and Services Administration (Pagasa) said Cagayan will experience heavy to intense rainfall (100 to 200 millimeters of rainfall) on Saturday (December 28).

Ten other areas are forecast to have moderate to heavy rainfall (50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall):

  • Apayao
  • Isabela
  • Palawan
  • Eastern Samar
  • Southern Leyte
  • Leyte
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Davao Oriental

Pagasa said Cagayan, Isabela and Palawan will continue to experience moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday (December 29), along with Aurora, Quezon and Camarines Norte.

Shear line is the convergence of warm and cold winds while ITCZ is the merging of winds coming from the northern and southern hemispheres.

Meanwhile, Pagasa warned that heavy to intense rainfall will likely bring flooding, especially to urbanized, low-lying and coastal areas while landslides are possible in moderate to highly susceptible places.
