MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon will combine to bring cloudy skies and rain to vast swaths of Luzon and the Visayas On Friday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The said LPA was last located 275 kilometers east northeast of Surigao City, according to Pagasa weather specialist Raymond Ordinario, and is expected to bring rains over several parts of the country until Christmas.
Meanwhile, Ordinario said that some parts of Luzon will continue to experience scattered rain showers on Friday due to the influence of the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”
“Inaasahan pa rin natin ang patuloy na makulimlim na panahon na may mahihinang pagulan sa Eastern Luzon, samantalang scattered rain showers and thunderstorm naman sa Palawan,” he said.
(We still expect cloudy weather with light rains in Eastern Luzon, while scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Palawan.)
“Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon ay makakaasa pa rin ng maaliwalas na panahon at may tiyansa ng mahihinang pagulan dala pa rin ‘yan ng epekto ng ating amihan,” he added.
(The northeast monsoon may still bring light rains; otherwise, the weather in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon should remain clear.)
Cloudy skies and scattered rain are also still expected over the entire Visayas due to the LPA, while Mindanao will have relatively fairer weather with chances of rain and thunderstorms.
Gale warning is still raised over several parts of the country’s seaboards, specifically in the waters of Batanes, Cagayan (including the Babuyan Islands), Isabela, Aurora, Eastern Quest of Quezon (including Polillo Islands), Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Camarines Norte, Northern Eastern Coast of Camarines Sur and Catanduanes, Northern Samar, Zambales, Western Coast of Palawan, as well as Kalayaan Islands.
