LUCENA CITY — Three persons died, and another was injured in two road mishaps on Monday in Quezon province.
The Quezon police said in a report Tuesday, Dec. 13, that a multiple-vehicle collision around 8 p.m. in Atimonan town caused the deaths of a truck driver and his helper.
The report said a truck driven by Romeo Nazar, 60, was negotiating a descending section of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Malinao Ilaya, when it occupied the opposite lane, side-swiped an oncoming truck, and hit two more approaching trucks.
Nazar, his helper Bernardo Diolta, and the driver of another truck, Alexander De Leon III, suffered injuries and were taken to Doña Martha Memorial District Hospital in the town proper. But Nazar and Diolta were declared dead on arrival.
The police are conducting further investigation.
In Lucena City, helmet-less motorcyclist Anjelo Jael crashed at 5:15 a.m. into the rear of a bus that was about to pick up passengers at the diversion road in Barangay Gulang-Gulang.
Jael suffered head injuries and died on the spot.
The bus driver, Wencelito Cusi, was placed under police custody while investigation continued.
