Suspected NPA arms cache unearthed in upland Kalinga

CAMP MELCHOR DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela — Army soldiers and police officers unearthed an arms cache at a suspected New People’s Army (NPA) hideout in Balbalan town in Kalinga province on Friday, December 9, police said on Saturday, December 10.

Army Captain Rigor Pamittan, the military’s 5th Infantry Division public affairs chief and spokesperson, said Army soldiers under the 50th Infantry Battalion and officers of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office unearthed the arms cache in Sitio (sub-village) Kalakatan in Barangay (village) Mabaca after getting a tip from informants about the items allegedly concealed by Komiteng Larangang Guerilla-Baggas members of the NPA operating in Kalinga-Apayao-Abra areas.

Found were an M-16 Armalite rifle with four magazines, two Garand rifles with five magazines, a carbine rifle, three rifle grenades, 30 assorted bullets, two ammonium nitrate sticks used for landmines, three improvised explosive devices, electric wires and blasting caps, medical kits, a rebel flag, personal belongings, and anti-government documents.
