MANILA, Philippines — Police authorities and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency have burned a total of P14.3 million marijuana plants in Cordillera within the past 17 days, said the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday.
The Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations was launched from November 13 to 30 with 19 police operatives, which led to the seizure and burning of 71,105 fully grown marijuana plants and 2,100 seedlings, stated the PNP.
“We scored big anew in the campaign against illegal drugs. The confiscation and eradication of these illegal drugs in various areas around the Cordillera region is a reflection of our intensified strategies to eradicate the supply chain of this illicit activity,” commented PNP Chief Police General Rodolfo S Azurin Jr.
Azurin also said that collaboration was essential in order to tackle the illegal drug problem in the community.
According to the PNP, a manhunt is ongoing for the cultivators of the marijuana, and cases for violations of the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” are being prepared.
