MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Sunday confirmed the authenticity of a video in which Vice President Sara Duterte said she tasked someone to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. if she were to be killed.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago told INQUIRER.net in a Viber message that Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla instructed the NBI to verify the authenticity of Duterte’s video.
This directive came after Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and the Presidential Security Command called for an investigation into Duterte’s threats.
“The NBI Cybercrime investigators have found the video clip to be authentic. It is not a deepfake or AI-generated,” Santiago revealed Sunday evening.
“The findings were already reported to the Secretary of Justice. An investigation is still ongoing,” he added.
