3 rebels in Occidental Mindoro cut ties with NPA

CITY OF CALAPAN — Three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Occidental Mindoro surrendered to the police in Magsaysay town, Occidental Mindoro province, authorities said Friday.

The rebels were identified as “Ka Efren,” 62; “Ka Bato,” 37; and “Ka Robert,” 37, all residents of Magsaysay.

The police said the three former NPA members surrendered around 3 p.m. on Wednesday to the Provincial Intelligence Team of the Occidental Mindoro police under Regional Intelligence Unit 4 in Barangay Poblacion.

The three belonged to the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Mark Anthony Velasco under Lucio De Guzman Command of the Sub-Regional Military Area, Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee.

Brigadier General Sidney Sultan Hernia, police regional director, commended the local anti-insurgency efforts through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

The Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police said it had facilitated the surrender of 141 communist rebels in the region since January this year. INQ
