LUCENA CITY — Two drivers of public utility vehicles tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise testing Thursday on 106 bus and tricycle drivers at a transportation terminal in Santa Rosa City in Laguna province.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Friday that if the two drivers test positive in the confirmatory test, they would be endorsed to their local governments for intervention.

The random drug testing is part of PDEA’s “Oplan Harabas” in coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, police, and local government.

It aims to promote drug-free workplaces, treatment, and rehabilitation for public utility vehicle drivers in the country.

It is also in accordance with Section 15 of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

The LTO said it recorded 558 road crashes from January to August 2022, with August registering 128 incidents and 476 drivers testing positive for alcoholic intoxication. INQ
