MANILA, Philippines — Thirty-three drivers have so far been found positive for drug use after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted surprise drug tests in transportation terminals nationwide ahead of the observance of All Souls Day and All Saints’ Day.

PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said Monday that those who tested positive for drugs are 15 bus drivers, 12 bus conductors, three jeepney drivers, a van driver, a tricycle driver, and a taxi driver.

In a statement, he said the 33 drivers were among the 4,675 drivers who went through surprise drug tests launched nationwide by PDEA for its Project “Undaspot.”

According to Aquino, Undspot aims to prevent road accidents caused by drivers under the influence of drugs and keep commuters safe.

He said the 33 drivers are now barred from taking the wheel as they will undergo rehabilitation provided by the local government. He also said the drivers would not be able to reclaim their confiscated licenses until they complete their rehabilitation. /kga
