MANILA, Philippines — Authorities on Friday arrested a South African woman at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) for trying to smuggle some P92 million worth of crystal meth into the country, according to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

Joint operatives of the BOC, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Inter-agency Drug Interdiction Task Group of Naia caught the 40-year-old woman, who came from Johannesburg, South Africa, with 13.57 kilograms of shabu valued at P92.24 million tucked inside a “false compartment” of her luggage.

A day earlier, a Norwegian man, who also arrived from Johannesburg with 8.34 kg of shabu with an estimated value of P56.7 million, was nabbed.

Both foreign travelers will be charged with violations of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act as well as RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
