COVID-19 spread slows down in Ilocos region
LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The number of COVID-19 cases reported between Oct. 16 and Oct. 22 in the Ilocos region was slightly fewer compared with the previous week, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, Oct. 24.
The regional DOH said at least 317 new COVID-19 cases were tallied during the period, which translated to an average of 45 daily cases.
Data showed that the average daily number of cases was 2.8 percent lower than the 326 cases reported between Oct. 9 and Oct. 15, the DOH said.
Of the 317 cases, none was tagged as a severe or critical case, the DOH said.
In the previous week, the DOH also verified at least six deaths due to the virus.
Article continues after this advertisementAs of Oct. 22, the healthcare utilization rate in the region remained at a “safe” level, with 51 of the 220 intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients occupied.
Article continues after this advertisementAt least 214 of the 1,349 non-ICU beds were also occupied, the DOH added.
The regional DOH also reported that health workers in the region had surpassed its target population of 3.7 million for fully vaccinated individuals.
As of Oct. 22, the vaccination coverage in the region for the fully vaccinated was 102 percent of the target or around 3.8 million individuals, the DOH said.
Those who availed themselves of a first booster shot, meanwhile, was 37 percent, or 1.4 million individuals, of the 3.7 million target population, the DOH added. INQ
