2 injured Pakistani Navy officers rescued by PH Navy in waters off Ilocos Sur
LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Troops from the Naval Forces Northern Luzon carried out a rescue and medical operation for two injured personnel of a foreign navy ship traversing the waters off Ilocos Sur province last Friday, October 21.
In a statement on Monday, the Northern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (NOLCOM-AFP) said the two injured were Lt. Commander Mudassir Aziz Tamimi, who suffered from leg and arm fractures, and Zia-Ul-Islam, who had head injuries.
The latter was unconscious at the time of the medical evacuation, the NOLCOM-AFP added.
The two were aboard the Pakistan Navy Ship Shamsheer and were on their way to Korea before heading to Japan for the fleet review of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
They were injured while working on the ship’s forecastle due to rough sea conditions that caused their ship to jolt intensely, NOLCOM-AFP said.
