Marcos tackles agriculture with advisory council

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with the agriculture cluster of the Private Sector Advisory Council in Malacañang on Friday and issued a number of orders, including the enforcement of a ban on pork products from Panay Island for 60 days due to the African swine fever.
The president and the council also discussed supply chain improvement strategies to boost the administration’s food security program.
One of them is the Department of Science and Technology’s digital platform Sarai which would provide farmers “with site-specific crop advisories” based on data gathered from the Diwata microsatellite.
According to Press Undersecretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, the president also ordered authorities to hasten the replanting of coconut trees and distribution of seedlings and to review the Act for Salt Iodization Nationwide law to revive salt farming.
