MANILA, Philippines — Scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over parts of the country on Tuesday due to the effects of the easterlies and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the easterlies, which are winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will affect Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Quezon.

The ITCZ, which happens when the northeast and southeast trade winds converge, will affect a large part of Mindanao, and cause partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

“Yung easterlies ay patuloy na nakakaapekto sa silangang bahagi ng Luzon at ganun din sa silangang bahagi ng Visayas at yung [ITCZ] ay naapektuhan ang malaking bahagi ng Mindanao,” said Pagasa weather specialist Aldcazar Aurelio in the bureau’s morning weather forecast.

(The easterlies will continuously affect the eastern portion of Luzon and the eastern portion of Visayas and the ITCZ will affect a large part of Mindanao).

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience fair weather with chances of isolated rainshowers in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.

Areas affected by heavy rain are cautioned of possible flash floods or landslides, said Pagasa.

  • Metro Manila — 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
