MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. vowed his support for the arts on Saturday, drawing inspiration from his parents, former President Ferdinand Marcos and Imelda Marcos.

Marcos said this in his message for the 53rd anniversary of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), which was built during his father’s administration with his mother as the founding chair.

“As your president, I pledge my allegiance to the arts, just as my father and my mother once did many years before,” Marcos said in his speech, which was read by CCP Chairman Jaime Laya. “I also exhort all of us to bring culture, the arts, and the creative industry down to the loneliest barangay in the country.”

The CCP celebrated its 53rd anniversary through a musical that featured original Filipino musicals from 2015 to 2021 in vignettes.
