MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is studying the possibility of setting up more bus stops for the Edsa Busway and a bus terminal in Caloocan City.

The additional bus stops are in preparation for the start of face-to-face classes slated on August 22.

“We will still look for other possible bus stops. I had a meeting with the consortium that operates Edsa Carousel and we asked them to have additional buses, especially during the start of the face-to-face classes on August 22,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said on ANC Headstart on Monday.

Recently, the DOTr opened two new bus stops along Roxas Boulevard and Macapagal Avenue.

Currently, about 400 buses are plying the busway.

The DOTr is likewise eyeing the establishment of a bus terminal in Caloocan City to ease traffic congestion in the area due to the long line of buses.

“Also, we are looking at possible area where they can park their buses in Monumento because there is no exchange in the north unlike here in the south, we have [the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange],” said Bautista.

“We’re looking at an area which is owned by the [Philippine National Railways]. We just need to clear this and that’s I think in Caloocan… Because there’s no terminal in the north, it creates some traffic because of the long queue of buses,” he added.

Commuters have earlier lamented the traffic congestion and lack of public utility vehicles.
