Cebu’s longest running Mixed Martial Arts tournament, the Ground and Pound Series, returns with an explosive fight card this July 14 at the Cebu Coliseum.
Organized by the YawYan ArDigma Martials Arts Federation, the upcoming event serves as the sixth installment of the Ground and Pound series and first after a two-year hiatus.
“After two years, nasundan na gyud ang Ground and Pound,” said Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu founder and Vis-Min director Master Benigno “Ekin” R. Caniga Jr. “We are all excited because it has evolved from the previous events.”
Ground and Pound VI will be dubbed “Invincible.”
Caniga Jr. said the tournament will showcase pure MMA fights unlike the previous editions of series, that featured stand-up kick-boxing bouts.
Aside from promoting MMA in Cebu, Caniga also said the tournament aims to showcase all kinds of martial arts as a way of physical fitness.
“Dili ma-deny nga nagkakusug ang MMA dinhi sa Cebu. This time, we will have a tournament that will be participated by elite fighting clubs in Visayas and we will also have a guest team from Malaysia,” Caniga said.
Aside from Yaw-Yan ArDigma, the other participating clubs are Yaw-Yan Musang and Durex Dragon Kickboxing Club of Lapu-Lapu City, Soma Kickboxing Club of Mandaue City , Negros Top Team, Butuan Extreme, MUMA Boxing Club of Cagayan De Oro City and Tenbudo MMA from Malaysia.
Tickets are available at the YawYan Ardigma gym in the Coast Pacific Building along Sanciangko Street.
