Cebu Sports Fest invites sports organizations

THE CEBU SPORTS Fest is inviting sports organizations that would like to take part in this year’s Cebu International Sports Fest and  Expo 2012 to sign up and be included in the event’s official lineup of activities.

The event, tagged as Cebu Sports Fest 2012, is slated from May 17 to 20 at the grounds of the South Road Properties and other areas around Cebu City.

The four-day affair will be featuring sports activities, an expo and a symposium.

Sports events that will be featured are motocross, wakeboard and wakeskate, kite surfing, flag football, softball, baseball, rugby, dancesport, rock climbing, ultimate Frisbee, soccer, boxing, mixed martial arts, beach volleyball, airsoft, taekwondo, parkour, capoiera, yoga, zumba, fire poi and the Sundown marathon.

One of the highlights of the Cebu Sports Fest 2012 is the culminating championship of the Cebu City Sports Commission’s (CCSC) three-month grassroots summer program of arnis, table tennis, basketball, batted sports, chess, dancesport, athletics, gymnastics,  swimming, contact sports and volleyball.

The CCSC hopes to be able to tap about 20,000 elementary and high school participants for the training, which will be held at the newly renovated Cebu City Sports Center and CCSC’s Sports Institute.

The event is on its third installment and is moving closer to become one of the top sporting festivals in the Philippines and Asia.

Cebu Sports Fest chairman and Cebu City Sports commissioner Brian Lim said any group is welcome to be part of the event.

“This is a joint effort between government and private institutions in promoting sports and its benefits to the general public,” Lim said./CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
