MANILA, Philippines — An alleged robber on the run was killed during an encounter with police officers, the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 9 reported on Tuesday.

The incident happened Monday night after a 36-year-old man reported to the police that a robber held him up at gunpoint, taking away his mobile phone, at the corner of Castro Street and Taft Avenue in Malate.

They proceeded to scour the streets where the crime took place in search of the robber  “who was described as wearing a muscle shirt and carrying a backpack and a chest bag,” the MPD said in its report.

They eventually found the suspected robber walking along the road.

On seeing them, he ran away – but was immediately cornered. Nobleza identified himself as a police officer and asked the man to surrender peacefully.

But according to the MPD report, the suspected robber “charged,” pointing a .38-caliber revolver at Nobleza, who immediately fired back.

They brought the suspect to the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The officer seized from the still unidentified suspect a .38 caliber revolver without a serial number and loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
