Theft, robbery cases ‘slightly increased’ in Metro Manila, says NCRPO
MANILA, Philippines — Theft and robbery cases have slightly increased in Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Thursday.
“January 26 to March 1 then from March [2] to April 5 ay masasabi po natin na bahagyang may pagtaas po ‘yung mga index crime or dito sa total number of crimes dito sa ating nasasakupan,” NCRPO public information officer Lieutenant Colonel Jenny Tecson said in a Laging Handa public briefing.
(January 26 to March 1 then from March 2 to April 5, we can say that there is a slight increase in the index crimes or total number of crimes in our jurisdiction.)
“Karamihan po diyan, ang ating naitala ay ‘yung mga theft cases and more robbery cases po,” she added.
(Most of what we listed are theft and robbery cases.)
Article continues after this advertisementFrom January 26 to March 1, the NCRPO recorded 288 theft cases. It increased by 4.17 percent to 300 cases from March 2 to April 5.
Article continues after this advertisementRobbery cases, meanwhile, climbed to 122 cases from 114 during the same period.
According to Tecson, these crimes happen in places where there is low police visibility.
“Itong mga insidente na ‘to, lalo na po ‘yung mga theft cases, malimit po ‘yan na mangyari sa mga lugar na kung saan hindi po natin kontrolado ‘yung lugar,” she said.
“Kumbaga hindi po masyadong visible ‘yung ating kapulisan,” added Tecson.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año recently said incidents of crime nationwide rose to 5 percent in March.
