MANILA, Philippines  – The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Saturday committed its “full security coverage” to the  inauguration of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio on June 19 after several explosions rocked other parts of Mindanao last week.

“At this point in time, continuous ‘yong planning and coordinating conference sa lahat ng security clusters na magpro-provide ng security coverage,” DCPO spokesperson Police Major Maria Teresita Gaspan said at the Laging Handa PH briefing.

She added that around 2,000 security personnel will be deployed on Duterte-Carpio’s inauguration day.

Two explosions rocked Mindanao last Thursday, May 26. An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded inside a public utility bus in Koronadal, South Cotabato, while another went off at a bus terminal in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat.

Gaspan said DCPO has since activated its Davao Defense System, conducting thorough checkpoints and inspections.

“We have even recommended na ‘yong mga lalabas, isang sakayan lang doon sa Davao City Overland [Transport] Terminal para ma-prevent natin na no similar incident will happen like what happened in Central Mindanao,” she added.
