MANILA, Philippines — Even though he will serve as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), radio broadcaster and media personality Erwin Tulfo still wants to, at least, continue having a radio and TV program, he said on Tuesday.

Tulfo said he would ask Communication officials for a weekly one-hour radio and TV program to discuss DSWD matters, including its projects and programs.

“Kailangan talaga ‘yan, hindi naman siguro araw-araw kasi magiging busy na tayo,” he said in a public briefing when asked if he will continue being a radio broadcaster once he assumes the DSWD’s top post.

“Pero siguro, hihingin ko diyan sa mga opisyal natin dyan sa PCOO (Presidential Communications Operations Office) lalo na sa PTV at Radyo Pilipinas na bigyan tayo kahit once a week lang na program for one hour para lang marinig ang mga kababayan natin ang mga proyekto,” Tulfo added.

(But I may ask the PCOO officials, the PTV, and Radyo Pilipinas to give us a weekly program for one hour so that the people would know our projects.)

He said the program would bare the “DSWD side” so that people would hear the aid that they can avail and the subsidies they can receive.

This will also serve as an avenue for the Filipino to convey their problems.

“Kung ano ‘yung mga problema nila, maiparating naman nila sa Secretary, sa administration para naririnig natin. Kaya kailangan natin ng mga programa pa rin sa radio, TV, sa social media para makarating sa atin ‘yang mga sumbong na ‘yan,” Tulfo said.

(Whatever their problems are, they can convey it to the Secretary and the administration. So we need to have programs like this in radio, TV, social media so that we would also hear their side.)

Tulfo works as a broadcaster in the government media channel, People’s Television Network, and previously as a news anchor for media network TV5. He also hosted shows produced by his brother, Ben, who owned Bitag Media Unlimited Inc., which is known for hard-hitting public service programs.

He is also the brother of Senator-elect Raffy Tulfo and former Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo.

Tulfo has been chosen by President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to lead the DSWD in the incoming administration.

According to the Marcos camp, Tulfo was chosen for the social welfare portfolio for “his involvement in covering and helping Filipinos here and abroad through his social programs and partnerships with other organizations.”

He also has been in public service, “doing social work [for] three decades,” the camp said.
