Truck helper stabbed dead in Quezon province

LUCENA CITY––A truck helper was stabbed and killed before midnight Wednesday, May 24, inside an eatery along the Maharlika Highway in Sariaya town in Quezon province, police said Thursday.

The Quezon police reported that Reymark Mendoza, 28, and two others were eating porridge at 11:20 p.m. in the eatery at Barangay Sampaloc 2 when the suspects, Cesar Ibañez and John Mark Vincent Cueto, residents of the village, arrived.

Without provocation, the suspects started a fistfight with Mendoza’s group.

Wilbert Landicho, the eatery owner, tried to pacify the brawl, but the fan knife-wielding Ibañez still managed to stab Mendoza in his chest. Landicho was also hit by the knife on his right arm.

Mendoza died on the way to the Greg Hospital in the town center. Landicho was brought to another hospital in this city for treatment.

The suspects escaped after the incident and are being pursued.
