MANILA, Philippines — Former labor chief Bienvenido Laguesma and migrant workers advocate Susan “Toots” Ople have accepted the offer to join the Cabinet of presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos Jr.’s chief-of-staff, disclosed this Monday ahead of the proclamation of the next president and vice president of the country.
Laguesma will head the Department of Labor and Employment while Ople will take the held of the newly-created Department of Migrant Workers.
“Yes, they both accepted their nomination,” Rodriguez said in a text message when asked if Laguesma and Ople have accepted the offer to join the Cabinet of Marcos Jr.
Laguesma and Ople are yet to personally confirm their acceptance of the Cabinet posts, as of this posting.
Marcos Jr. earlier said he invited Laguesma and Ople to join his Cabinet.
Following Marcos Jr.’s offer, Ople, founder and president of the non-profit organization Blas Ople Policy Center, said she was contemplating and consulting family members, advisers, and stakeholders to seek clarity on her decision.
