Lacson hails end of revolving door policy in AFP

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday hailed the end of the “revolving-door policy” in the Armed Forces of the Philippines with the passage of a law prescribing fixed three-year terms for the military chief and senior military officials.
“Finally, we will see an end to the revolving-door policy in the AFP,” the chair of the Senate panel on national defense and security said in a statement.
Lacson said the new law would give AFP leaders the opportunity to implement their legacy programs instead of staying in office briefly.
“The revolving-door policy has always been a disservice to the mandates of the military leadership entrusted with the security and defense of the country,” he said.
According to Lacson, the merit-based promotion and attrition systems will assure the AFP of a “continuous pool of qualified and effective leaders.”
