Voters observe slow conduct of polls in Oriental Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN, Philippines — Several voters are taking there time casting votes in some precincts in Oriental Mindoro province on Monday.

Rosiela Mendoza, 51, has been in line for more than three hours to vote in Nag-Iba High School in Naujan town, waiting for her turn.

“Inuuna mga seniors daw (They are letting the seniors go first),” she said.

Teacher Helen Antenor said voters started lining up at 6 a.m. in their precinct in Buhuan Elementary School in Naujan.

“Voters are slow because they check very well if they did the process right before they stand up,” Antenor said.

Maila Ilagan said she was able to vote after an hour because she accompanied a senior citizen at Sto. Niño Elementary School in this city.

But her daughter Jamela, a first time voter, had to line up for three and a half hours, because of machine error in the same precinct.

“Ginutom, nainip, Leni pa naman to (Went hungry. Got bored. But still voting for Vice President Leni Robredo),” said Maila.

“But we understand there are also protocols to observe,” she added.
