Masbate village exec nabbed for election gun ban violation

LEGAZPI CITY––Police arrested on Sunday a barangay councilman at a checkpoint in Balud town in Masbate for allegedly violating the election gun ban.

Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, the spokesperson for the Bicol police, said Rodel Mentino, 36, was driving a motorcycle with no plate number when he drove past the law enforcers, prompting a police chase at around 7:45 p.m. in Barangay Dao.

Authorities arrested Mentino and recovered a loaded .45-caliber pistol, a magazine, and 17 live bullets for the same gun.

The suspect is facing criminal charges for violating the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines.
