Motorcyclist nabbed for election gun ban violation in Laguna
LUCENA CITY – Police arrested a motorcyclist in Santa Maria town in Laguna early Sunday for violating the Omnibus Election Code provision banning civilians from using and carrying firearms during the election period.
Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police reported that farmer Alejandro Tampis, 51, was travelling aboard his motorcycle when he was flagged down at a police checkpoint in Barangay (village) Jose P. Rizal around 1:30 a.m.
When the suspect was getting his driver’s license from his sling bag, a policeman noticed the handle of a gun inside.
Authorities found Tampis carrying a loaded caliber .38 gun.
The suspect failed to produce documents allowing him to own, possess and carry a firearm during the election period.
The suspect was detained and is facing criminal charges for violating gun laws and the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines.
