65 assorted guns seized from 71 election gun ban violators in Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY — At least 65 different firearms were confiscated from 71 people who were arrested in separate police operations in the Bicol region conducted from January 9, the start of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, until April 3, police said in a report Wednesday.
Police also seized 12 bladed or deadly weapons from the suspects who were arrested in Masbate (23), Camarines Sur (13), Sorsogon (10), Albay (9), Camarines Norte (8) and Naga City (2). The island province of Catanduanes has zero gun ban violation incidents.
The arrest and confiscation of the firearms were carried out in designated Comelec-Philippine National Police checkpoints set up in various provinces, towns, and cities in Bicol.
The campaign to recover loose firearms went on full steam to ensure that the May 9 national and local elections would be safe, peaceful, and orderly.
