OLONGAPO CITY––An alleged member of a rebel group on Wednesday surrendered to authorities in this city, the local police said.
The unnamed rebel reportedly belonged to the Marxista-Leninista Partido ng Pilipinas-Rebolusyunaryong Hukbong Bayan, according to the Olongapo City Police Office.
The police said joint operatives of the local police and several units of the Philippine Army in Zambales province facilitated the surrender.
In a statement, Maj. Joven John Camarao, officer-in-charge of the city intelligence unit of the local police, said the rebel was subjected to debriefing and given financial assistance.
