MANILA, Philippines — A 51-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 6-year-old granddaughter, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said Sunday.
Based on the Batasan Police Station’s report, the suspect is a resident of Commonwealth, Quezon City.
Police said the suspect was nabbed on the afternoon of April 2 following a complaint from the victim’s aunt.
“Lubos na kinakailangang tiyakin ang proteksyon, kaligtasan, kalusugan, at moral ng mga bata, kung kaya’t marapat lamang na arestuhin ang sinumang mahuli o maireklamong sangkot sa paglabag sa kanilang karapatan,” said QCPD director Brigadier General Remus Medina in a statement.
(The protection, safety, health, and moral of children should be ensured, that is why it is just right to arrest anyone who will be caught or complained involved in violation of rights.)
The suspect is now facing a complaint for rape under Republic Act No. 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997.
Medina advised parents and guardians to guard their children to avoid abuse.
“Pinapaalalahanan ko rin ang mga magulang o guardians ng mga kabataang ito na dapat lagi silang sinusubaybayan upang masigurong ligtas sila sa anumang klase ng pang-aabuso o pagmamalabis,” said Medina.
(I also remind parents or guardians of these children to monitor their children to ensure that they are safe from all kinds of abuse.)
