Grade 12 student dies in alleged hazing in Laguna
MANILA, Philippines — A Grade 12 student died after an alleged hazing in Barangay San Juan in Kalayaan town, Laguna on Sunday.
According to a police report, the victim identified as Reymarc Rabutazo was rushed to a hospital in the municipality of Pakil on Sunday but was declared dead on arrival.
“Initial investigation disclosed that the victim allegedly has undergone initiation rites by Tau Gamma Fraternity at the mountainous part of Twin Falls, Brgy San Juan, Kalayaan, Laguna,” the police report read.
The victim’s mother, Maricar, condemned the alleged hazing.
“Hirap na hirap siya sa nangyari. Pinaso ninyo, lagas ang ngipin, may damage ang ulo. Brutal na brutal. Demonyo ang gumawa,” the victim’s mother, Maricar, said in an interview with 24 Oras.
(He suffered a lot with what happened. You burned his skin, his teeth fell, there was damage in his head. It was really brutal. A demon did this.)
“Ang daming pangarap ng bata. Pangarap naming mag-asawa para sa bata. Anong ginawa ninyo? Winala ninyo,” his father, Remil, said.
(The kid had a lot of dreams. We, his parents, had a lot of dreams for him. What did you do? You wasted it all.)
Based on the report, the victim told his grandmother early Sunday morning that he will go out with his friends. Later in the afternoon, his family received news that he died while being rushed to a hospital.
Four persons of interest are reportedly in the custody of the police.
Maricar, meanwhile, appealed for justice for her son.
“Nakikiusap ako sa inyo mga brad, tulungan nyo si RR. Wag na kayo magtakipan. ‘Yun lang po ang gusto ko, may hustisya sa anak ko,” she said.
(I plead to all of you, please help RR. Don’t cover for each other. That’s just what I want, justice for my child.)
