Clark shipment yields P6-M worth of crystal meth hidden inside tumblers

MANILA, Philippines — An estimated P6-million worth of crystal meth or shabu had been seized at the Port of Clark in Pampanga, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported Thursday.
The BOC said the illegal drugs had been found concealed in between thermal layers of drinking tumblers, which were among the contents of a shipment that arrived from Johannesburg in South Africa on March 11.

The shipment was subjected to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K9 sniffing and indicated the presence of illegal drugs, the BOC said.
Samples gathered from the package were delivered to PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis, which later proved that the powdered substance was indeed methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

District Collector Alexandra Lumontad issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention against the shipment for violating Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) in relation to Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Lumontad said that the port’s profiling and border security procedures and the BOC Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force and PDEA’s consistent collaboration had been beneficial in the successful capture of illegal substances. Jericho Zafra, INQUIRER.net trainee
