Kin, Zambales execs mark 65th death anniv of President Magsaysay

CASTILLEJOS, Zambales––Relatives, local officials, and representatives of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) commemorated on Thursday, March 17, the 65th death anniversary of President Ramon Magsaysay in this town.

Former Zambales Vice Gov. Angel Magsaysay-Cheng, a grandniece of the late president, represented the Magsaysay family and led a wreath-laying ceremony at a monument dedicated to the country’s seventh president beside his ancestral house.

A Mass was offered at the Sta. Maria Chapel, beside the ancestral house, which had been turned into a museum and managed by the NHCP.

Found in the “Museo ni Ramon Magsaysay,” are three main galleries: The Life of Magsaysay, Magsaysay’s Family, and Death and Legacy-that preserved several artifacts and memorabilia belonging to the late president.

Also present during the occasion were town and village officials.

Magsaysay, who was born in the capital town of Iba, was elected representative of the district of Zambales from 1946 to 1949 and served as defense secretary from 1950 to 1953.

He died in a plane crash on March 17, 1957, on Mt. Manunggal in Cebu.
