MANILA, Philippines — Law enforcers arrested a barangay chairman and his companion in a Leyte buy-bust and seized from them P680,000 worth of crystal meth, locally known as “shabu.”

The suspects were identified as Rogelio Daño, the 57-year-old chairman of Barangay Santa Fe in Matalong, and Cesario Lambujon, 35, according to a report to Gen. Dionardo Carlos, the chief of the Philippine National Police.

Daño is also the president of the Association of Barangay Chairpersons in Matalom.

The two suspects were arrested in a buy-bust at around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, in the Baywalk area, Barangay Kalanggaman in Bato, Leyte.

The operation was conducted by a joint team of police officers and agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Eastern Visayas (PDEA 8)

They confiscated three transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing 100 grams with an estimated value of P680,000 and drug paraphernalia.

The suspects were put under the custody of PDEA 8.

“Our end game strategy to fight illegal drugs has just started and we assure the public that we will be doing our best to put an end to the drug menace plaguing our country,” Carlos said in a statement.
