MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Navy has opened bids on deals worth a total of P242.1 million for the repair and maintenance of two of its heavy landing craft, BRP Ivatan and BRP Batak, and logistics support ship BRP Bacolod City.

The Navy bids and awards committee (BAC) started accepting bids for a P41.4-million contract, through negotiated procurement, for the dry-docking and other related repairs for BRP Ivatan (LC298).

BRP Bacolod City (LS550) is also due for dry-docking and repairs with the ABC placed at P166.9 million.

Regular maintenance

The Navy BAC scheduled the opening of bids for the three contracts on March 22.

Dry-docking entails bringing a vessel to a shipyard and on dry land so that its submerged portions could be cleaned and inspected as part of regular ship preventive maintenance.

History

BRP Bacolod City is considered one of the Navy’s most modern transport ships commissioned in 1993. It was acquired brand new through the United States Foreign Military Sales program.

BRP Ivatan and BRP Batak were formerly HMAS Brunei and HMAS Tarakan of the Royal Australian Navy before they were decommissioned in 2014 and refurbished then donated to the Philippine Navy in 2015.
