MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) off Davao City will bring rain in a large portion of the country on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said in a weather forecast that the LPA was last spotted 100 kilometers east-southeast of Davao City, Davao Del Sur.

“Dahil sa epekto ng low pressure area, malaking bahagi ng ating bansa ang makakaranas ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga pag-ulan,” he said.

Based on Pagasa’s forecast, the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Visayas, Mindanao, and the provinces of Sorsogon, Albay, Masbate, Romblon, and Palawan.

Aurelio said the LPA is still not expected to develop into a tropical depression, but he warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains in areas affected by the weather disturbance.

Meanwhile, he also said that the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, is currently affecting the weather in Northern Luzon.

“Ang northeast monsoon o amihan ay naaapektuhan ang Northern Luzon. Inaasahan po natin na ito ay lalakas at maaapektuhan ngayong araw ang malaking bahagi ng Luzon,” he said.

According to Pagasa, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains in Cagayan Valley, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
