Lasallian educators support Robredo, Pangilinan in May polls

MANILA, Philippines — Over a thousand educators from different La Salle Educational Institutions have signed a statement of support for Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan in the May 9 polls.

The Lasallian educators, in a statement released on Thursday, said it is imperative for them to seek guidance from the De La Salle Brothers of the Philippines and choose leaders who propose a vision that can unite the people for the common good, possess the moral integrity needed to command trust from citizens and civil society, and have a proven track record of empowering the disempowered and underserved sectors of the society.

“Therefore, after careful discernment on the characters, platforms, and track records of all the candidates running for the Offices of the President and Vice President, we firmly believe that Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan are the most qualified for the said positions respectively,” the educators said.

Citing the words of former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, the educators noted that this coming May 9 elections “will influence the direction of whether we will be a nation after God’s heart or not.”

Meanwhile, echoing the words of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, the educators also said they should pursue their mission to become “beacons of light—to bring the light of truth, justice, democracy, and integrity to our society, now languishing in the darkness of lies, injustice, authoritarianism, and dysfunctional leadership and governance.”

The Lasallian educators noted that with their decision to support Robredo and Pangilinan, they are able to heed with the call of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines to “stand up for the truth” amid “radical distortions” in the history of martial law.
