400 UST educators endorse Robredo for president
MANILA, Philippines — More than 400 faculty members of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Tuesday endorsed the presidential candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo.
This endorsement, according to the group, is a “first” in the university’s history.
“We seek a leader whom our students can look up to and emulate,” they said in a statement posted on the “Thomasians for Leni” Facebook page.
“We need the leader that is Leni Robredo,” they added.
In backing Robredo’s candidacy, they stressed the need for a “competent, committed and compassionate leadership to rise above these troubling times.”
“Our country is at a crossroads. We are in a critical period of our history,” they added.
They said such kind of leadership is also needed to overcome the country’s health and economic challenges as well as to “revive the respect for human dignity; to achive moral restoration; to champion truth, justice, and peace.”
“Leni Robredo has consistently demonstrated exemplary servant leadership by promoting advocacies on life, freedom, justice, and solidarity in the service of family, community, Church, and environment,” the group of educators said.
They further noted that the vice president has also displayed “genuine compassion for the marginalized” through her office’s Angat Buhay initiatives.
She has also “repeatedly shown respecrt for dignity of a person regardless of race, religion, age, and gender.”
The group then considered Robredo as an “effective communicator and collaborator.”
“She has successfully inspired individuals and groups from diverse cultures and demographics to work together for countless projects and programs, able to prove that good governance can and shall uplift the lives of the Filipinos,” they said.

The UST educators likewise pointed to Robredo’s “creative and responsive” measures to address the pandemic, saying it highlighted “her unquestionable capability to work effectively under any pressure or crisis.”
“Leni Robredo never stops to learn, from the past through experience; from the future through the youth,” they said.
The educators also took notice of Robredo’s “constant humility to listen, if not provide a voice.”
They said this “attests to her fidelity to the teachings of Christ.”
