Marcos revisionism? ‘You’ll never be able to revise history’ — Sotto
MANILA, Philippines — “You will never be able to revise history.”
Senate President Vicente Sotto III said as he slammed attempts to tone down the dark period in the country’s history under the dictatorship of former president Ferdinand Marcos.
“History is history. It has happened, nangyari na. Paano mo makakalimutan? Paano mo mabubura eh nangyari na? Iyan ang pananaw ko,” Sotto said during Thursday’s “Meet the Press” forum ahead of the EDSA People Power anniversary on Feb. 25.
“Paano mo ire-revise ‘yung history kung nangyari na? What you’re essentially doing is disinformation, hindi revising history. You will never be able to revise history,” he added.

He said he wrote the song while witnessing how uniformed men were faced by people protesting against the Marcos government.
He recalled finishing his composition in three days or on Feb, 25, the day forces loyal to the late president defected, forcing Marcos and his family to flee to Hawaii.
“So that inspired me to write the song Magkaisa which I finished in 2 or 3 days. By February 25, there was euphoria all around, kaya noong ibinigay ko ‘yung kanta kay (late) President Cory (Aquino), tuwang tuwa sila. Si Father Bob Garon was there, he brought to me all the videos that he took of what was happening, pinag-sama namin, binigay namin sa television stations that time that were starting to open again,” Sotto said.
“You’ll never forget that,” he added.
