MANILA, Philippines — If he wins as the country’s next president, Senator Manny Pacquiao said he will appoint evangelist Eddie Villanueva as his anti-corruption czar.

Villanueva, who is currently among many deputy speakers at the House of Representatives, represents the Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) Party-list whose main advocacy, Pacquiao pointed out, is to fight corruption.

“If God wills that I [will be] president of our nation, I would appoint Congressman Eddie Villanueva, better known as Brother Eddie Villanueva as corruption czar,” the boxer-turned-politician said in a statement.

“With Brother Eddie, I am confident that justice can finally be attained against the corrupt officials of government – past and present,” he added.

One of Pacquiao’s major campaign promises is to rid the government of corruption, which he blamed for mass poverty and stunted economic growth. He reiterated that corruption in government is one of the country’s biggest problems.

Villanueva is the leader and founder of the Jesus is Lord (JIL) church.
