Visayas-based An Waray party-list latest to back Escudero’s senatorial bid

Sorsogon Gov. Francis Escudero is seeking the continued deferment of the scheduled increases in the PhilHealth contributions.

MANILA, Philippines — A party-list group based in Visayas is the latest to back Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero’s senatorial bid in the 2022 national elections, adding to the list of groups already backing his candidacy.

In a statement on Wednesday from Escudero’s camp, they confirmed that the An Waray party-list which hails from Eastern Visayas has endorsed Escudero, as relayed by incumbent An Waray Rep. Florencio Noel.

Escudero is seeking a return to the Senate, after winning Sorsogon’s gubernatorial seat in the 2019 midterm polls.

“The endorsement was personally relayed to Escudero by incumbent Party-list Rep. Florencio ‘Bem’ Noel, whose group even produced a campaign ad for the veteran legislator now seeking a fresh six-year term in the Senate,” Escudero’s team said.

“An Waray’s endorsement is the latest addition to the growing list of political groups, candidates and incumbent officials backing Escudero’s senatorial candidacy under the legislative agenda of empowering local government units and transitioning the country to economic recovery post-pandemic,” it added.

According to Escudero’s camp, several other party-lists like ARISE, Ang Kabuhayan, Kusog Bikolandia and Magdalo have already named the former senator as one of their bets for the upcoming polls.

Aside from that, several presidential candidates have adopted Escudero for their Senate slate, like the tandems of Senator Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto; Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan; and Senator Manny Pacquiao and Rep. Lito Atienza.

According to the latest Pulse Asia survey on senatorial candidates, Escudero remains at the fourth of the Magic 12 with at least 55 percent of the respondents picking him.
