MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 growth rates in Metro Manila continued to decline on a daily basis, signaling that fewer coronavirus cases were recorded throughout the region, a fellow of independent analytics group Octa Research said on Monday.

The National Capital Region (NCR) recently logged 15,959 new COVID-19 infections.

“This was lower than the reported numbers over the past four days,” Dr. Guido David posted on Twitter.

“In the meantime, the daily growth rate of the 7-day moving average has decreased to -1%, i.e. a negative growth was observed,” he added.

The country recorded a two-percent growth rate on Sunday.

Despite the “encouraging” trend, the visibility of the COVID-19 situation in Metro Manila is “clouded” because of the limited testing.

“While this trend is encouraging, suggesting the possibility that cases in the NCR have peaked, the possibility still remains that visibility of the situation in the NCR is clouded because of limitations in testing,” he pointed out.

“We need to monitor the trends in the NCR over the coming week to see if cases decrease further,” he continued.
