2 robbers push their luck, face jail time in QC

They probably never heard of the saying, “Quit while you’re ahead.”

The police caught up with two robbers exactly 12 hours after they shot and wounded an ABS-CBN employee in Quezon City on Saturday afternoon when they tried to stage another heist in the same area.

Chief Supt. Mario de la Vega, director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), identified the two as David Briones and Christian Paul Gonzales, both aged 23.

They were positively identified by ABS-CBN technical director Crisologo Pangan as the ones who took his bag which contained his cell phone and other valuables at around 1 p.m. on Saturday on Panay Avenue.

Pangan was shot by the robbers when he refused to give up his bag.

He remains at Capitol Medical Center where he is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds in the jaw and left leg.

According to the QCPD director, Briones and Gonzales were arrested at around 1 a.m. on Monday on Caraga Street in Barangay Masambong.

Seized from them were a motorcycle and a cal. .22 gun.

Supt. Audie Madrideo, QCPD Station 2 commander, said that Briones and Gonzales were caught after he and his men received a report about two suspicious-looking motorcycle-riding men in the area.

He added that he promptly dispatched a police team which located the two men just as they were about to approach another potential victim.

When the policemen accosted them, one of the two men tried to fire upon the lawmen  but his gun jammed.

Bystanders who saw the incident mobbed the robbers and prevented them from escaping until the police took them into custody.
