TACLOBAN CITY — Expect more new day care centers in this city in the coming months.
Mayor Alfred Romualdez has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to early childhood education through the creation of day care centers.
Among these are three facilities currently under construction in the northern part of the city, designed to provide safer and more accessible learning environments for preschool children.
The day care centers, located in resettlement sites in SOS and Habitat (Barangay 106) and Lions Village (Barangay 97), are approximately 80 to 90 percent complete.
Construction began in August and is on track for completion by Dec. 23.

The projects, implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO), have a total allocation of P2.96 million each under the 2023 General Appropriations Act.
Currently, Tacloban operates 56 day care facilities, serving 3,480 preschoolers aged 3 to 4 through its Early Childhood Care and Development Program.
The new centers will enhance this program, particularly for children in the resettlement communities of Tacloban North, bringing quality early education closer to their homes.

In an earlier interview, Mayor Romualdez emphasized the importance of investing in children, noting that the construction of day care centers is integral to ensuring preschoolers receive foundational education.
“We want to give our children the best start in life, and building these centers is a step towards that goal,” he said.
Romualdez also assured residents that more day care centers will be built in the coming years to address the needs of Tacloban’s growing population of young learners.
