1 killed, 3 hurt in blast

A man was killed while three others were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in front of a sari-sari (retail) store in Malabon City before midnight on Monday.

Police said Rodrigo Mejica, 35, died in the hospital due to multiple shrapnel wounds while his relative, Catherine de los Santos, 27, was reported to be in critical condition at Manila Central University Hospital.

On the other hand, Rick Sonza, 22; and Rowena Legaspi, 16; suffered minor injuries.

The explosive was set off by a man identified only as Bulldog in front of the store owned by the victims on Governor Pascual Avenue in Barangay Catmon.

Earlier, Bulldog and Mejica were overheard arguing when the latter dared the former to set off the IED he was holding.
