3.7M COVID-19 vaccine doses so far administered in extended nat’l vax program

MANILA, Philippines — The government has administered 3.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, so far, during the extended national vaccination program dubbed Bayanihan Bakunahan.

National Vaccination Operations Center chair and Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje on Tuesday said that they injected vaccines to around one million individuals on December 20.

“Nakabawi tayo kahapon. Naka-1,039,000 tayong doses kahapon for a total—simula nung December 15—ng 3.7 million sa buong bansa,” she reported during the Laging Handa briefing.

(We have administered around 1,039,000 doses yesterday for a total of 3.7 million since December 15 across the country.)

According to the health official, most of the administered vaccines were for second doses.

“Ang pinakamaraming nabakunahan kahapon ay ‘yung ating mga second doses. Almost one-half ang ating second doses kahapon, 2.1 million ang second dose at 1.1 ang ating first dose, may mga 289,000 tayo na booster,” said Cabotaje.

(Most of those vaccinated yesterday were for second doses. Almost one-half or 2.1 million lined up for second doses, 1.1 million are first doses, and some 289,000 were booster shots.)

“In terms of the sector, marami pa rin ang ating pediatric population, tapos sumunod ‘yung rest of the adult, tapos ‘yung mga ibang priority groups ay nababakunahan din,” she added.

(In terms of the sector, many of the pediatric population were vaccinated, followed by the rest of adults, and other priority groups.)

Cabotaje noted that some areas have yet to resume their inoculation activities due to the aftermath of Typhoon Odette.

They have also adjusted the vaccination targets, depending on the effect of Odette in their areas.

The second Bayanihan Bakunahan commenced on December 15 with a goal of administering seven million COVID-19 vaccine doses to fully immunize 54 million individuals by year end.
