OCTA: QC’s COVID-19 cases lowest since March 2020

MANILA, Philippines — In the latest report of the OCTA Research Group, the COVID-19 indicators of Quezon City have continuously dropped proving the city government’s effective COVID-19 response.
For the week of December 10 to 16, OCTA noted the city’s positivity rate slipped to 1.0 from 1.11% the previous week. The 7-da7 average daily new cases dropped to 17, lower than the average 24 for the week of December 3 to 9. This is number is the lowest 7-day average in Quezon city since March 21-27, just three weeks after the first case was reported in the city.
The current incidence rate or ADAR (average daily attack rate) is 0.53 per day per 100,000, lower than 0.63 last week. The reproduction number as of December 13 was 0.36, while the RT-PCR testing positivity rate is at 1.0, both these numbers are considered very low.
The OCTA Research says Quezon City residents will have a merrier Christmas as compared to 2020. Nevertheless, they urged the public to stay vigilant and follow minimum public health standards so that we will enjoy a safe season.
For her part, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said the city government is hopeful that the numbers will continue to decrease until the end of December.
“As we celebrate the Christmas season, QCitizens remain observant of the basic health protocols and the importance of getting vaccinated. This then resulted in a consistent decrease in COVID-19 indicators,” Mayor Belmonte said.
“We look forward to welcoming 2022 with renewed hope that the city and the rest of the country will recover from COVID-19,” she added.
Also, for the first time since the peak of the pandemic, there are no areas under special concern lockdown in the city. In Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, the last COVID-19 patient was discharged and hospital director Richard Cabotage added that for the past three weeks, no new COVID-19 cases were admitted.
According to the latest numbers, Quezon City has fully vaccinated 1,872, 743 individuals or 110.16% of the target population to achieve “population protection”. There were 2,035,010 adult vaccinations who received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccines while186,514 minors with or without co-morbidities have received their first dose.
