P13.6-M worth of ‘shabu’ seized in Sulu bust; 3 arrested

MANILA, Philippines — Anti-narcotics operatives arrested three suspected drug peddlers in a buy-bust operation in Sulu, seizing P13.6 million worth of crystal meth, locally known as “shabu.”

The three were arrested in Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu on Dec. 4, 2021 during a joint operation of the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Special Action Force.

One of the suspects, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP), is a barangay kagawad of Barangay Gata-Gata, Panglima Estino, Sulu, identified as Ilahan Sabdain Yahya, 48 years old.

The two other suspects were identified as Muride Jarih Ahajan, 31, and Elwina Hamidan Unaid, 24. All three are residents of Sulu, according to the PNP.

The authorities confiscated two kilos of shabu worth P13,600,000.

The suspects are currently under the custodial facility of Indanan Municipal Police Station, while PDEA took the recovered pieces of evidence for laboratory examination and proper disposition.

Complaints for Violation of Republic Act 9165 or the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002” will be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office against the arrested suspects, said the PNP.
